Ο Δημήτρης Σωτηρόπουλος είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγητής, στο Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Υπολογιστών του Πανεπιστημίου Πελοποννήσου με γνωστικό αντικείμενο «Μαθηματικά για Μηχανικούς (Engineering Mathematics)». Είναι κάτοχος πτυχίου Μαθηματικών (1995) με κατεύθυνση «Πληροφορικής και Υπολογιστικών Μαθηματικών» και Διδακτορικού Διπλώματος (2005) στην περιοχή της Ολικής Βελτιστοποίησης με Διαστηματική Ανάλυση (Interval Analysis). Συνολικά έχει περισσότερα από 20 έτη διδακτική εμπειρία στην Τριτοβάθμια Εκπαίδευση και έχει συμμετάσχει σε διάφορα εθνικά και διεθνή επιστημονικά συνέδρια. Είναι συγγραφέας ή συν-συγγραφέας 48 άρθρων σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και σε πρακτικά διεθνών συνεδρίων και έχει λάβει περισσότερες από 560 αναφορές από άλλους ερευνητές. Έχει υπάρξει διδάσκων Π.Δ. 407/80 στο Τμήμα Πληροφορικής του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου, στο Τμήμα Επιστήμης και Τεχνολογίας Υπολογιστών του Πανεπιστημίου Πελοποννήσου και είναι μέλος ΣΕΠ του Ελληνικού Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου από το 2009 στο μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα σπουδών «Μεταπτυχιακές Σπουδές στα Μαθηματικά» στην θεματική ενότητα «ΜΣΜ61/80-Υπολογιστικές Μέθοδοι και Λογισμικό στα Μαθηματικά», όπου και έχει επιβλέψει περισσότερες από 20 Μεταπτυχιακές Διπλωματικές Εργασίες σε θέματα του ερευνητικού του ενδιαφέροντος. Είναι επιβλέπων καθηγητής τριών (3) διδακτορικών διατριβών στο τμήμα ΗΜΜΥ καθώς και μέλος τριμελούς συμβουλευτικής επιτροπής σε άλλες τρεις (3) διδακτορικές διατριβές.
