Ο Νικόλαος Χ. Σαγιάς γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1974. Έλαβε βασικό πτυχίο Φυσικής το 1998, μεταπτυχιακό δίπλωμα ειδίκευσης Ηλεκτρονικής & Ραδιοηλεκτρολογίας το 2000 και διδακτορικό δίπλωμα στις Τηλεπικοινωνίες το 2005, όλα από το Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών. Από το 2000 έως το 2012 συμμετείχε ως ερευνητής σε Εθνικά και Ευρωπαϊκά έργα έρευνας και ανάπτυξης στο Ινστιτούτο Διαστημικών Εφαρμογών και Τηλεπισκόπισης του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών. Μεταξύ 2006 και 2008 ήταν μεταδιδακτορικός υπότροφος στο Ινστιτούτο Πληροφορικής και Τηλεπικοινωνιών του Εθνικού Κέντρου Έρευνας Φυσικών Επιστημών-"Δημόκριτος". Το 2009 εκλέχτηκε ως Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στο τμήμα Πληροφορικής & Τηλεπικοινωνιών του Πανεπιστημίου Πελοποννήσου, όπου από το 2020 έως σήμερα βρίσκεται στη βαθμίδα του Καθηγητή. Κατά τις διετίες 2014-16 και 2018-20 διετέλεσε Πρόεδρος του τμήματος Πληροφορικής & Τηλεπικοινωνιών του Πανεπιστημίου Πελοποννήσου, ενώ από το 2020 έως σήμερα είναι Διευθυντής του εργαστηρίου Ψηφιακών Επικοινωνιών και Συστημάτων στο ίδιο τμήμα και μέλος του Συμβουλίου Διοίκησης του Πανεπιστημίου Πελοποννήσου.

Τα ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα του καθ. Σαγιά βρίσκονται στο χώρο των τηλεπικοινωνιών και περιλαμβάνονται θέματα όπως ψηφιακά συστήματα, συστήματα κινητών και ασύρματων επικοινωνιών, στατιστικές τηλεπικοινωνίες, δίκτυα, οπτικές ζεύξεις ελευθέρου χώρου, δορυφορικές τηλεπικοινωνίες και θεωρία επικοινωνίας. Στο αντικείμενο των τηλεπικοινωνιών έχει δημοσιεύσει περισσότερα από εβδομήντα (70) άρθρα σε έγκριτα επιστημονικά περιοδικά και περισσότερα από πενήντα (50) σε πρακτικά διεθνών συνεδρίων, έχοντας έως τώρα λάβει περισσότερες από 4000 αναφορές, ενώ σταθερά και σε ετήσια βάση βρίσκεται στο υψηλότατο 2% μεταξύ των ερευνητών με παγκόσμια απήχηση στο αντικείμενο των δικτύων και τηλεπικοινωνιών. Έχει βραβευθεί από την εταιρία Ericsson για τη διδακτορική του διατριβή, ενώ έχει συνβραβευθεί για το καλύτερο επιστημονικό άρθρο στα συνέδρια IEEE Wireless Communications & Networking Conference 2014 (WCNC’14) και 3rd International Symposium on Communications, Control & Signal Processing 2008 (ISCCSP’08). Επίσης, για περισσότερα από πέντε (5) έτη ήταν μέλος της συντακτικής επιτροπής στο επιστημονικό περιοδικό IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, ενώ έχει διατελέσει ως μέλος οργανωτικών και τεχνικών επιτροπών προγράμματος σε διάφορα συνέδρια της IEEE (ICC, GLOBECOM, WCNC, VTC, κλπ) και όχι μόνο. Ο Ν. Χ. Σαγιάς είναι Senior Member της IEEE, μέλος της IEEE Communications Society.

Nikos C. Sagias was born in Athens, Greece in 1974. He received the BSc degree from the department of Physics (DoP) of the University of Athens (UoA), Greece in 1998. The MSc and PhD degrees in Telecommunication Engineering were received both from the UoA in 2000 and 2005, respectively. Since 2001, he has been involved in various National and European Research & Development projects for the Institute of Space Applications and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens, Greece. During 2006-2008, was a Postdoc research scholar at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National Centre for Scientific Research-"Demokritos", Athens, Greece. In 2008 he we was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications at the University of Peloponnese, in Tripolis, Greece, where currently is a Professor. Between 2014-16 and 2018-2020 he served as the Head of DIT.

Dr. Sagias research interests span the broad area of digital communications, and more specifically include MIMO and cooperative systems, fading channels, satellite communications and optical-wireless communication systems. In his record, he has over seventy (70) papers in prestigious international journals and more than fifty (50) in the proceedings of world recognized conferences. For five (5) years (between 2009-14) he was an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, while before 2009 he had served as an Editor for AEÜ - International Journal of Electronics and Communications and IETE Technical Review. Additionally, he is serving as a reviewer and TPC member for various IEEE conferences (GLOBECOM, ICC, VTC, etc). He is a co-recipient of the best paper award in communications in the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC), Istanbul, Turkey, May 2014 and 3rd International Symposium on Communications, Control and Signal Processing (ISCCSP), Malta, March 2008. He is a senior member of the IEEE and IEEE Communications Society as well as the Hellenic Physicists Association.
