Mission

Th Library at the University of the Peloponnese operates as an independent and decentralized service at Directorate level, entitled "Library and Information Center" (VIKEP) of the University of Peloponnese. VIKEP is a center for collecting and disseminating information. The supervision and jurisdiction of VIKEP includes all the library-information material, the electronic equipment and the means of supporting the work of the libraries, acquired by the University of the Peloponnese or donated to it.

The basic mission of VIKEP is the development and maintenance of collections of books, scientific journals and audiovisual material of all forms to meet the educational and research needs of the Academic Community (Teaching and Research Staff Members, Postdoctoral Researchers, Doctoral Candidates, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students, Staff) and the local community.

VIKEP's main concern is to ensure access to information sources and libraries in Greece and abroad through the use of information sources and systems, library networks, etc.



Administrative - Geographical Structure

 

VIKEP consists of the Central Library, which is based in Tripoli, and all its Branches (Units), regardless of the building complex or the city in which they are housed.
 

The Annexes (Units) are administratively subordinate to the Central Library of the Foundation and form a single whole with it both in terms of human resources and in terms of development policy and the management of financial resources, in accordance with article 16 of Law 3404/2005 ( Official Gazette 260 A'). Collections

 

In the Collection of the Library and Information Center of the University of Peloponnese there are:

  • Works of general reference (Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Bibliographies, Handbooks, maps, etc.)
  • Scientific books
  • Printed and electronic periodical publications of scientific interest
  • Doctoral theses prepared at the University of Peloponnese (PP)
  • Diploma theses of undergraduate and postgraduate (master) students prepared at the FP
  • Research project of the teaching and research staff of the FP
  • Books and donations of special topics and interest
  • University Yearbooks
  • Publications of foreign Universities, Museums and Private Collections
  • Special collections consisting of old and rare books, manuscripts, codices
  • Audio-visual material, discs, cassettes, CD-ROM optical discs, audio discs, multimedia, video tapes, films, transparencies, etc.
  • Electronic databases of sounds, images, digital bibliographies or full texts, either online or in CD ROM format
  • Software packages (word processing, graphics, statistical processing packages, etc.)

The University of the Peloponnese has, via the Internet, access to a wide range of electronic resources such as journals, books, bibliographic bases, digital collections and thematic portals, with the aim of facilitating research, information and education of students, faculty members, researchers and his librarians.

All electronic resources and related electronic services are included on the website of the Library and Information Center Directorate.
