Alexandros Xenakis covers the new academic interdisciplinary field arising from the applications of information and communication technologies in economics and society. He is an economist, political scientist, and his doctoral dissertation entitled 'Electronic voting in the United Kingdom: The study of security procedures, electoral administration and the social acceptance of electronic voting' was supervised by Professor Ann Macintosh, at Edinburgh Napier University. He has taught Marketing and Human Resource Management at the Department of Economics of the University of Crete, in the Postgraduate Program in Psychology at Panteion University, and at Edinburgh Napier University, School of Informatics. In his previous academic positions, he has taught business administration, principles of economic theory, entrepreneurship, information systems. He has also taught e-government for the National School of Public Administration. He has participated in many European research programs in the field of electronic citizen participation, he has been an FP7 reviewer in the Social and Humanities program and has provided consultancy to the Ministry of e-Government. He has worked for the Municipality of Corfu since 2016 as an Expert Consultant to the Mayor and from December 2019 to December 2024 he served as Secretary General of the Municipality of South Corfu. He has worked as a case officer for applications for international protection at the Hellenic Ministry of Immigration and Asylum. Since May 2025 he serves as Assistant Professor under term for the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese at Corinth.
