The Department of Food Science and Technology, University of the Peloponnese, co-organizer of Blended Intensive Program (BIP), entitled “Ethics in the Food Ecosystem".

The Department of Food Science and Technology, University of the Peloponnese, participated in the organization of the Blended Intensive Program entitled "Ethics in the Food Ecosystem" coordinated by the Polytechnic University of Viseu (Portugal). In particular, within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, three Universities of the European Alliance EUNICE, namely the Polytechnic University of Viseu (Portugal), the University of the Peloponnese (Greece) and the Universita Degli Study de Catania (Italy), in collaboration with Savonia University (Finland) and the Lithuanian University of Health Science (Lithuania) implemented from April 15 to May 11, 2024, the BIP entitled "Ethics in the Food Ecosystem" which focused on the study of ethical issues of food production, distribution and consumption.
The virtual component of the program took place from 15 to 19 April 2024 (20 hours), followed by the on-site component from 22 to 26 April 2024 (40 hours) at the Polytechnic University of Viseu (Portugal). Afterwards, the students worked independently in groups (40 hours) in order to deliver the final assignment by May 11, 2024.
The courses within the program were taught by a total of sixteen Professors from the five Universities participating in the program. The module entitled "Ethical Food Operation" was offered by faculty members of the Department of Food Science and Technology of the University of the Peloponnese, namely Professor Ioannis Kapolos, Professor Theodoros Varzakas and Assistant Professor Lambros Farmakis.
In total 21 (twenty-one) students attended the BIP, 5 (five) of which were from the University of the Peloponnese, 8 (eight) from the Savonia University and 8 (eight) from the Lithuanian University of Health Science.
Students participating from the University of the Peloponnese were particularly satisfied with the program stating that it was an excellent educational experience as it examined important contemporary ethical challenges in the food ecosystem, such as environmental sustainability and food security.
