Regarding the creation of a

 Master’s program on 

Child Rights (MA on Child’s Rights)

On Saturday, June 7, 2025, a Letter of Intent was signed in Patras, at the premises of the University of Patras, between the Rectors of the Universities of Patras and the Peloponnese, Professors Dr. Christos Bouras and Dr. Athanasios Katsis respectively, and the UNICEF Diplomatic Representative in Greece Dr. Ghassan Khalil for the creation of a Master’s program (MA) for the promotion of Child’s Rights)

This  Master’s program will be developed with the contribution of UNICEF and will be implemented through the Child Rights’ Centers of the two universities. Specifically, the planning for the creation of the program is carried out by the UNICEF Diplomatic Representative in Greece Dr. Ghassan Khalil and the Coordinators of the centers of the two Universities, Professor Dr. Efthalia (Elia) Chatzigianni, Vice-Rector for Administrative Affairs, International Relations & Outreach of the University of the Peloponnese, and Professor of the University of Patras, Dr. Athanasios Karalis.

The program aims to provide specialized knowledge and skills on children's rights, offering students the opportunity to examine the issues by analyzing both their theoretical and practical aspects.

Teaching will be conducted entirely in English, in order to ensure the international accessibility of the program and to enhance the participation of students from different countries.

The collaboration will also include opportunities for student and teaching staff exchanges, as well as the participation of faculty members in teaching or conducting special lectures, in their areas of specialization.

Child Rights’ centers are established in the framework of academic institution in Greece upon initiative and in cooperation with UNICEF Greece. They are hubs for knowledge, education, research, data and the documentation and promotion of children's rights.

The University of the Peloponnese established its Child Rights center in March 2025 with the aim to facilitate the promotion of children's rights to the academic community and society at large, through workshops, conferences, public events and awareness-raising campaigns and the integration of children's rights in academic, teaching and research work. Coordinator of the Center is Professor Efthalia (Elia) Chatzigianni and Deputy Coordinator is Associate Professor Konstantinos Konstantopoulos.
